Now What?

High Born is published. Check! But I keep asking myself...now what? Celebrate? Yes. Tell friends and family? Yes. But what else? What I've been trying to focus on recently is marketing. I find it to be a lot of fun, but it's not as easy as I assumed it would be. (Nothing ever is, right?) My friends and family haven't bought as many copies as I thought they would, so now I'm being forced to focus on the audience outside of my close circle. This is harder to do, but it is also very valuable. Because if I want to make my living writing, then I have to sell books to people I don't know. Lots of people I don't know.

I signed up for my author page on GoodReads today, and I can't wait to get it all set up and looking fancy. I also joined a group that focuses on reading and reviewing indie novels, so I'm very excited to get started there.

Under the surface of all this marketing, though, is another book. I've mentioned Fire Tongue before, but I'm sure it is going to become a much used name in many future posts. It is not a sequel to High Born, but is instead its own stand alone novel. (With potential for a sequel, of course.) I'm about 40,000 words in, but am not even half way done yet! Uh oh. I plan to start working on it again soon, and want to finish it this year for NaNoWriMo.

So, I suppose that's what is next. Market High Born and write Fire Tongue. I've got some work to do.
